A gentle practice for your own coordinates
Begin with a moment
that matters.
Choose an Anchor. Capture a moment. Return to your story. Give your days a context that belongs to you.
Begin small. Come back when you want to understand more.
Begin with one Anchor
01 Choose an Anchor
Choose your own
point of reference.
A new city, a relationship, learning a skill. Choose a moment that helps you place the days around it, then give it a name and a date.
An Anchor can be in the past or the future. The days you spend preparing for a beginning belong in your journal, too.
02 Capture a moment
A few honest lines are enough
Leave a small,
honest record.
- What happened today?
- What did I notice?
- What do I want to remember?
Write a few lines. Keep a photo, a sound, a feeling or a place when it helps preserve the moment. Connect it to the Life Anchor that gives it context.
A single timeline is enough, and it’s included in Free. Adding a secondary timeline, as shown in this example, is a Pro feature.
03 Return to your story
Change the scale. Change the perspective.
See a moment.
See a longer story.
Zoom into a moment or out across the years in Descartes. Change the focused Life Anchor to see the same days from another point of reference.
- What kept coming back?
- What changed in my experience?
- What matters to me now?

Let understanding guide your direction
You can change course.
You can begin again.
As you read, you may notice something you want to give more time to. Let that understanding become one small choice in your everyday life.
A quiet week can be worth recording. A break can be followed by a return. Your journal has room for both.
A gentle place to start
One moment. A few lines.
A little time to look back.
Start with one Anchor and one entry. When you feel ready, return to it and ask: what can I see now that I couldn’t see then?
The day count gives you a point of reference. Your experience gives it meaning.
